Mr. Julius R. Kejo has served on KJRO board of directors since 2021 and is our Board Chairperson since 2023. He is a retired Secretary General (CEO) of the Tanzania Red Cross Society (TRCS) with over 24 years working experience in humanitarian industry. Highly experienced in strategic planning, program and operational management, coordination and team leadership, coaching and building volunteers teams, and instrumental in strategic change management processes.
As CEO, managed bilateral and cooperative partnerships with different partners including Government Institutions/departments, International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), UN Agencies (UNHCR, UNICEF, UNFPA, WFP etc), various Red Cross National Societies including American Red Cross, Spanish Red Cross, Belgian Red Cross and other NGOs.
Working with the Red Cross, held different positions including the Secretary General (CEO) (from 13th Nov 2016 to 5th April 2021), Director of Organization Development (2010 – Oct 2016), Disaster Preparedness Manager (Sept. 2005 – 2009), TRCS Team Leader for Burundian Refugee Relief Operation in Western Tanzania (Kasulu district in Kigoma region from 2002 – Aug. 2005), Relief Coordinator for Congolese and Burundian Refugee Program in Kigoma rural and Kasulu districts (1998 – 2001), and Camp Manager in one of the Burundian Refugee camps in Kasulu district – Kigoma region (1997 – 1998).
The global responsibility held include being member of the IFRC evaluation team (in 2019) which conducted a global evaluation of the Organizational Capacity Assessment & Certification (OCAC) process and its impact on the organisational change and development of the Red Cross and Red Crescent National Societies (NSs). He is also an active member of IFRC pool of Organizational Capacity Assessment & Certification (OCAC) facilitators in Africa, since 2017 to date has supported seven Red Cross National Societies by facilitating organized OCAC workshops which enabled them determine opportunities for self-development and effectiveness in upholding assigned mandates in their respective countries.
Professionally, holds a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) in Corporate Management from Mzumbe University (Tanzania) and B.A in Economics from University of Dar Es Salaam (Tanzania).
